As with any kind of photography composition is important. But lighting is all important. My absolute preferred portrait style is the natural portrait. To just go pick a spot with your subject and not worry about the complexities of lighting equipment. But you really can’t always just rely on available light to achieve the results you need. Too much harsh midday sun or badly lit offices will turn my attention to some trusty old portable Elinchrom lights, which will of course always reside in may bag of tricks.
Portrait photography is the oldest and most widely practiced medium in photography, but capturing a subject, or subjects, successfully relies on more than just “point and shoot”.
